Ebola Temoignage: The Privilege of Working with International Colleagues and Helping Patients Survive

Fri, Dec 4, 2015, 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Daniel Lucey, MD - Georgetown University This presentation will focus on work as a physician in Liberia at an MSF Ebola treatment tent facility Oct 3-Nov 14, 2014, after three weeks in August in Sierra Leone providing hands-on evaluation in a government hospital and at the Ministry of Health teaching use of Ebola Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Photos will include African and "ex-pat" colleagues working together, especially in Liberia where many patients survived despite the primary treatment being oral rehydration solution (ORS). Several innovations were made, most importantly: (1) health workers provided twice-daily hands-on assistance to help all patients drink ORS, and (2) to ask the stronger patients to help the weaker patients, and especially the children 24/7.
